May 27, 2014 - Northern Lights Canada (NLC) is a proud supporter of the communities we live in. NLC recently made donations to 18 charities in recognition of the vital impact these organizations make to our communities and our lives. Each charity was chosen locally by an NLC office providing a combined amount of $36,000 donated to various charities across Ontario.
The Peterborough Northern Lights Canada office presented a $2,000 cheque to the Lakefield Food Bank for their outstanding work in the community. Housed at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church and open to the public on Tuesday mornings the food bank provided food for an average of 167 people a week during the month of April. From January to April of this year, an average of 60 households accessed the food bank each week. A number of people from the community volunteer each week at the food bank where they prepare food and set up tables of food for their guests to select the food they can use. “The Lakefield Food Bank is very grateful for Northern Light’s generous financial donation. Their gracious support allows us to continue to provide this needed service and ease the pain of hunger in our community.” Sandra Peacock, Coordinator.
